I have previously made these pouches http://www.cutoutandkeep.net/projects/pouches-2 and here is the requested how-to :)
Decide how big you want the pouch. My current one is 10 cm bredth and 29cm long. Cut it out, and fold it in half.
Fold down the edge on both ends. Secure it with pins and sew.
You can add a pretty fabric or lace at one or both of the ends, to make it frilly and girly.
If you want a motive on one of the sides, or both for that matter, now is the time to sew on whatever you want to. I chose to do a flower this time. It can be a star or a heart, a lollipop, spade clubs diamond and playing heart or anything you love :)
Sew on each part. First i took one leaf, then the next ,and the flower lastly.
This is how it looks so far.
Fold the right sides in and secure it. Sew down both sides.
This might be a little tricky. We are going to make it a string bag so we need ribbon in the folds we sew first. Use your scissor and be sure to only cut in the top layer of the fabric. We don't want the ribbon to be accessable from the inside when we put things in the pouch! So just make a small cut in the top layer fabric. You will have to do this twice on each side, as the seam is in the way.
Take your ribbon and fold it over the front, and follow along the back and to the front again. They should touch each other at the same side again so that you can make a knot there later to secure the threads. You need two like parts of ribbon for each side, this is what makes the pouch lock when you pull the strings.
Use a safety-pin to push the ribbon through the little hole we made. It is going to go around just as we measured. This means that the ribbon is going in the first hole, reach the end, put it in the next hole and it will poke out beside the hole you put it in first. Hope this was understandable...
This is how it looks.
Now, take the other ribbon piece and put it in the hole on the opposite side of where you did the last one. They are supposed to be conversed. When you lead the ribbon through all the holes like in step 10, and it comes out beside the starting point, you can tie the complementing ends together. Sometimes I add pearls on the ribbons to make them pretty.
FINISHED! ;)
