Incredibly simple guide to making a baby quilt. Perfect for a cot. If you want half all the measurements to make a smaller quilt for a pram/buggy.

I didn't take pictures of the steps as I did them to replicated it on paint :P

You Will Need (5 things)

  • Pin(s)
  • 1 m Wadding
  • 1 m soft underside Fabric
  • 1 m patterned Fabric
  • Sewing Machine

Steps (6 steps, 60 minutes)

  1. 1

Cut your fabric to size. Roughly you will want a meter of each but you will be trimming down the wadding and underside. Lay out your pattern fabric - WITH THE PATTERN SIDE FACING THE GROUND - and measure it. You want the other two pieces to be approx. 2 inches less all the way around.

  2. 2

Place the wadding on the pattern fabric (which is still with the pattern side facing down) so it is in the middle.

  3. 3

Now place the soft underside fabric on top of the wadding with the soft side (the side that is for show) facing up.

  4. 4

Take one length of the pattern fabric and fold it over itself by about 1/2 inch. Then fold this again over by around 1 inch so it forms a panel that covers the wadding/underside. Pin this down in a straight line. It should look neat as you will be sewing down this line. Make sure the wadding and underside are underneath the panel, if they are not then fold it further in.

Take the second length and repeat, being careful to keep all fabric flat so it doesn't crumple in the middle before you sew it together.

Then repeat for each short end of the blanket until it is all pinned down ready to sew

  5. 5

Now sew along the edges where the pattern meets the underside. Sew carefully and in a straight line and then sew in any corner folds.

  6. 6

Your quilt is finished. It should look like this with neat seams, a sew-in rim around the edges on the patterned (upper) side and the soft underside underneath!
