Description

This is for a boy rag doll based on a pattern at: It is made out of scraps - I would guess around 1/3 yd of each fabric and 8 inches of 1/4 inch elastic. I accidentally deleted the photos before uploading so I will describe the steps. All seams are 1/4 inch.

Instructions

  1. Small shorts pattern 1281827090

To make the shorts pattern, use the body of the doll pattern. Measure up 3 inches from the bottom. Add 1 inch to each side. For the length, I made them more board short length and added 3 1/2 inches, for regular shorts length you probably could go 2 1/2 inches. At the center, measure 1/4 inch to each side for 1/2 inch between the legs.

  2. Lay out on fabric, right sides together and cut two pieces.

  3. Pin and stitch one side together, with the right sides together.

  4. Fold up 1/2 inch on each bottom edge of the shorts and stitch 1/4 inch away from the edge.

  5. Fold under at the waistband 3/4 of an inch. Stitch 1/2 inch away for the top edge.

  6. Using a safety pin, thread the elastic through the waistband. Sew down securely at each end close to the edge.

Right sides together, stitch the other side together and then the inside legs and crotch of the short and you are done!

  8. With the right sides together, stitch the left side together using 1/4 inch seam. Turn down the top edge of the shorts 1 inch, then stitch 1/2 inch away from the top edge.

  9. Turn under the bottom edge of each leg of the shorts 1/2 inch and stitch 1/4 inch away from the edge.

  10. Using the safety pin, thread the elastic through the top edge of the waistband. Sew each end of the elastic down at each edge securely, going back and forth over it a few times.

  11. With right sides of fabric together, stitch the right side together, then stitch the leg/crotch area.
