Just a cute little ring I made while waiting for my friends to come over.
Just a cute little ring I made while waiting for my friends to come over.
First preheat the oven to 275ºF and gather your supplies . Take a small lump of clay, about 3/4 inch ball and roll it around in your hands so it warms and softens up to malleability.
Pinch away a small section and roll between two fingers into a 1/2 inch long snake. Press flat then roll into a tight tube. You should now have a sluggy looking piece which will be the middle of the rose.
Roll more of these little snakes and press flat but don't roll into slugs. (Like my technical terms here? Snakes and slugs?) Anyway, make petal shaped pieces and attached to base of original slug, pressing the bottom and smoothing the seam.
Keep going on like this, increasing each petal layer's size until you have about three layers, or as many as you'd like. You can use more clay if you need, or less than the original piece you warmed up earlier, that was just a guide. When your rose is complete, take your ring base and press lightly into the bottom of the rose. Take a small flat piece of clay and smooth under ring to secure, like a bracket. Press tightly and securely but don't injure your rose.
Bake on a sheet of foil in the oven for about 10-15 minutes, watch carefully. Take out when clay no longer shows if you make a nail mark in it. Let the ring cool.
Take out your nail polish(es) and mix if you need to create a shade you like. I wanted a minty green so I mixed lime green with light blue and white in a small cup and painted with a brush. For a shimmer, I added a coat of shimmery light green. After, I added a coat of clear polish. Then take your ring out and spray with a spray-on lacquer. I used Ace Hardware generic brand, but use anything you want. After letting it dry, you can wear it.
