This is a scratchboard image. My art teacher prints this black... stuff... on a piece of overhead projector plastic then we scratch away the black, and all of the light or coloured paper will show through the scratched out area. The more you scratch, the lighter the area will be. You can buy special tools for this, but we used exacto-knife blades taped to Popsicle sticks with masking tape. You may or may not have seen similar scratchboards available at stores such as WalMart. Though they are alike, there are differences. This board is flimsier, easier to scratch and provides a smoother finish. The ones that you can purchase usually have a kind of metallic or rainbow paper/foil underneath and are pre-mounted on cardboard. *The original picture: http://sharpysplash.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d2pf794 **This was on my first-ever sheet of scratchboard. I promise that the finaal piece that I handed in looked better. ***This cat is my cat, her name is Autumn, thus the title. :)
