I'm not normally a great "from scratch" cake maker. They always seem to come out hard. Okay, so I've only made one other one... and then I kinda gave up on it because I didn't like the failer of it. HOWEVER... its going to be super cold tonight and tomorrow and I wanted to heat up the house by using my oven. Yes, I'm giving it a try again. Here we go...... Ingredients: 2 1/4 Cup all purpose flour 1/2 Cup unsweetened cocoa powder 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/2 Cup Shortening 1 3/4 Cups Sugar 1 Teaspoon Vanilla 3 Eggs 1 1/3 Cups Cold Water

Instructions

Ingrediants you will need! I didn't add the water, sorry!

  2. Small img 1332

    1. Grease and lightly flour two 9x1 1/2 inch round baking pans. Tip.. When I "flour" mine, I use some of the dry mixture from my cake mix instead of plain flour. It doesn't leave the white residue on it nor does it leave it a floury taste on the edges!

  3. 2, Mix together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

  4. Small img 1331

    3. In a large mixing bowl beat shortening with an electric mixer on medium to high speed for 30 seconds. I had no electric mixer, so I beat it until it was nice and smooth and whippy... Add sugar and vanilla; beat until well combined.

    4. Add Eggs, one at a time, Beating well after each. Add dry mixture and water alternately to beaten mixture. Beating on low speed after each addition just till combined. Pour Batter into prepared pans.

  6. Small chocolate cake

. Bake at 350* for 35-40 minutes or till wooden toothpick comes out clean. Cool on wire racks 10 min. Remove from pans and cool thoroughly on wire racks. Frost with desired frosting. ps.. that picture isn't my cake, but it looks the same!!
