So, I finally figured out how to use the perfume magazine inserts in a craft project. I've been wanting to create this Christmas card for years and I couldn't figure out how to make it "smell". I tried everything, but the design was always a little off. Then it dawned on me I could paper punch the scents out of the magazine ads. Before you start, realize this is an oversized card. It's 8 1/2 x 11 (letter size) and the blank white rectangle, well that's for your personal message! To begin print the pdf. I suggest printing it with a color printer and on card stock so it holds up, once you cut out the image. PRINT ME:

Instructions

  1. Small perfumead

Next, rip out those ads, any perfume ad will do, but you want "unused" ads with flaps that haven't been opened!

  2. Small punchperfume

Now, using a 1-inch circular paper punch, punch those babies out and by babies I mean circles. See where I'm punching, you want a little "flap" to remain, this keeps the circle sealed while you work and allows the receiver to "open" and release the scent themselves. It might take a little practice to get it just right.

  3. Small paintperfume

Next, use a paint pen to cover the front side of the circle. You don't want to "open" the flap, so paint in a downward, one-way stroke. Allow the paint to dry. Notice the flap ;-) By the way, acrylic paint doesn't like the magazine paper - so I suggest only using metallic paint pens.

  4. Small glueperfume

Next, glue stick those puppies to card and press firmly.

  5. Small punchhole

Allow the glue to dry. It's at this point it can be shipped off to friends, family or whomever. Yeah, it's a 8 1/2 x 11-sized card, but it's so rockin' it's worth the extra postage! There's a message telling the receiver what to do (cut, punch, lift, smell).
