After I made my skirt I had about 3 inches of fabric left, over two widths of my fabric. Why not make a hair tie or scarf instead of throwing it away? Of course you can use two different fabrics, or sew fabric scraps together to make your pieces If you are super resourceful.

Description

After I made my skirt I had about 3 inches of fabric left, over two widths of my fabric. Why not make a hair tie or scarf instead of throwing it away? Of course you can use two different fabrics, or sew fabric scraps together to make your pieces If you are super resourceful.

Instructions

  1. Small 625515 10151688182469366 55653155 n

Lay your two pieces on top of each other. I had cut mine from the hem of a skirt and they weren't exactly even. Take the longer of the two (or if yours are even, just one of them) and cut it in half.

  2. Small 1376413 10151688182534366 120228651 n

Finish this edge with and overlocker (or serger), then sew a 1cm (foot width) hem.

  3. Small 1292432 10151688182864366 1884513807 o

Lay these two pieces down, right sides together. With the unfinished end, you want to create a nice curve to finish. Fold one layer in half and use something curved to cut around. I used a paper plate.

  4. Small 1233067 10151688183124366 359690760 o

Fold it out and you should have a nice shape like this. Using this one piece as your new pattern, cut all four ends the same way.

  5. Small 1280842 10151688183364366 996784605 n

Sew your back piece to your top piece, starting at the ends and working down. You'll want to sew with your bottom piece on top.

  6. Small 598571 10151688183459366 1295442415 n

When you get to your seam make sure your hemmed pieces are right up next to each other and there's no gap.

  7. Small 1267282 10151688183514366 1470126189 o

Bag it out (turn it right way out) and iron flat.

  8. Small 792225 10151688183974366 923304509 o

Top stitch around the edges to keep it flat. I did a 1cm stitch but you can do more or less if you prefer.

  9. Small 1381792 10151688184069366 1365379804 n

Give it another good press and you're done! Wear it as a hair scarf or neck tie for a bit of fun rockabilly flair!
