Scented Pencils ;)

I just don't like the smell of regular pencils ;)

OK, so when I was in third grade, and we had our little school store, there was these weird "scented pencils". I thought they where cool because I honestly don't like the smell of pencils naturally, so when I went to buy one, they where a whopping $1.75, which is a lot for just one pencil!! For that entire school year, when everybody thought they where really cool and everybody had to have one (or five), I had two. I had root-beer scented and grape scented, because I couldn't buy any because of the price. All these years later, I realized they would probably be really easy to make, and they where. Sorry that in the picture you can't really tell they are scented ;)

Instructions

Okey poke, so get your supplies. For the scent you can use essential oils, fruit juice, perfume, extracts or soda (Mountain Due scented pencils, that is a good idea) all work great for getting your smell. But first, you will have to get out your pencils. Regular yellow unused pencils work best. So first, you will have to cut a piece of recyclable paper out, wide enough to cover the pencil all the way around and long enough to fit the whole pencil in in it. So first, with pieces of tape ready, wrap your paper around the pencil, so pretty much all of it is covered, and neatly tape it shut. Do this with enough pencils for your first batch. I did five. Next make sure that your bowl is big enough for your pencils to fit into completely. Sorry you can't see all of the picture, it cut out a lot of it.

  2. Fill your bowl to the almost top with water. Add enough of your liquid (as in smells) to make it so you can smell it faintly when you are not close to the water, you really want it to soak in. I had to use a lot of perfume, like 1/4 of the bottle but that because it was old and didn't smell like much, but the pencils turned out. So yeah, you have smelly water now. Take your pencils and submerge them in as best you can, and leave them there for 1-3 hours. I did one hour because I am impatient but they still worked out fine :) When you think they are ready to be taken out, if you used essential oil make sure to use tongs to get them out since you don't want that stuff on your hands. Put them on a plate. (don't take the papers off yet)

  3. Now you can either A) leave them in the sun to dry for 1-3 hours, which will help them soak in the smell or B) Do the impatient way like me and after letting them air dry a bit on the plate, make them dry with the air dryer, if using this method make sure you don't melt the erasers off, like I accidentally did.... When they actually are dry, you can take the papers off, if they didn't come off by themselves :) Now you have scented pencils, and they are uber cool right!!??!! I like mine, I have orange and strawberry, and they are sooooo cool ;) Just something weird I made that you don't see often ;) PS> I hart comments :)
