Nuno Felted Scarf The beauty is in the unexpected!
Nuno Felted Scarf The beauty is in the unexpected!
There are many Nuno felting methods on YouTube and other sites on the net. I looked until I found one which suited my expectations. For instance one method covered the fabric until it appeared to be wool. I liked the method where the fabric either showed some or made a pattern. This scarf shows fiber placed in a pattern.
For the stripped scarf I dyed the wool and the scarf. Although it took some of the color out of the fabric and dyed the wool I still liked the relsult. Both fabrics resisted the fiber. I had them on the floor jumping on them.
I used a yoga mat and bubble wrap. When you can tell the fiber has been accepted you start to shock the fabric to cause shrinking and texture. Netting or other fibers are also used. I was not satisfied with what I achieved. Try try again. I did like the two scarves above. The painting is a self portrait of a younger me.
I used a wool mohair blend for my scarve. The mohair was from some Angora goats I once owned. It is very labor intensive to process your own fiber. Silk is the preferred fabric. However it is spendy. Fun! Clean Hands! Great Workout!
