Showing how to do a simple satin stitch. I learnt how to do this by my Textiles Tutor in college, 2 years ago. If you are anything like me and are not a very good sewer by hand, this tutorial will even get you stitching
Showing how to do a simple satin stitch. I learnt how to do this by my Textiles Tutor in college, 2 years ago. If you are anything like me and are not a very good sewer by hand, this tutorial will even get you stitching
Gather all your materials.
Put your material between the 2 hoops and tighten. To start with (for practise), draw a box with the pencil on your tightened material.
Thread your embroidery thread through the needle so its doubled up and tie a knot at the end. Now some people don't double it and tie the ends, but if your anything like me you find it starts to unravel. To start stitching, I start at the top corner on your pencil line.
Then sew on the bottom corner on the line. Come back to the top and insert your needle as close to where u first started and then sew down to as close as you can to the bottom of the stitch.
Keep going until your getting close to finishing your thread. Should look something like this.
When you have come to the end of your thread, turn over to the back and tie a knot. repeat previous steps till you reach the end of your penciled line.
Tie off on the back and voila, you have satin stitched
If your feeling a bit adventurous and want to do something other than a box, draw your design and do a running stitch on the penciled line.
And satin stitch it.
