Showing how to do a simple satin stitch.
I learnt how to do this by my Textiles Tutor in college, 2 years ago. If you are anything like me and are not a very good sewer by hand, this tutorial will even get you stitching

You Will Need (6 things)
- Long headed Sewing Needle
- Any colour Embroidery Thread
- Cotton Material
- Small Embroidery Hoop
- Scissors
- Pencil
Steps (9 steps, 60 minutes)
-
1
Gather all your materials.
-
2
Put your material between the 2 hoops and tighten. To start with (for practise), draw a box with the pencil on your tightened material.
-
3
Thread your embroidery thread through the needle so its doubled up and tie a knot at the end. Now some people don't double it and tie the ends, but if your anything like me you find it starts to unravel.
To start stitching, I start at the top corner on your pencil line.
-
4
Then sew on the bottom corner on the line. Come back to the top and insert your needle as close to where u first started and then sew down to as close as you can to the bottom of the stitch.
-
5
Keep going until your getting close to finishing your thread. Should look something like this.
-
6
When you have come to the end of your thread, turn over to the back and tie a knot. repeat previous steps till you reach the end of your penciled line.
-
7
Tie off on the back and voila, you have satin stitched
-
8
If your feeling a bit adventurous and want to do something other than a box, draw your design and do a running stitch on the penciled line.
-
9
And satin stitch it.
