Chili peppers are a summer staple in my house, but they can be tricky. If their burning oil finds their way into your nose, mouth, or other sensitive area you will know the wrath of the capcasin. This trick makes dealing with them a breeze and also works to store them without creating extra waste.
Chili peppers are a summer staple in my house, but they can be tricky. If their burning oil finds their way into your nose, mouth, or other sensitive area you will know the wrath of the capcasin. This trick makes dealing with them a breeze and also works to store them without creating extra waste.
Turn a plastic zippy bag inside out and place it over your non-slicing (that is, your chili-pepper-holding) hand. Slice your pepper as usual, grasping it with your be-bagged hand.
If you do not need to use the sliced or chopped peppers right away, gather them up in the palm of your bagged hand. Be sure to gather them only with this bagged hand.
Use your non-bagged hand to pull the bag right-side out while the baggy hand grasps the peppers in the middle. You have now successfully chopped the peppers without getting the oils on your hand!
Chop a bunch all at once and then pour just what you need from out of the bag as you go.
