Make a two-tiered ruffle skirt that's perfect for summer.
Take your fabric and cut a 2-inch band the length of your waist (for your waist band). Put that aside.
Cut your fabric in half. I cut one piece a bit longer than the other because I planned to sew a 2-tiered skirt, with the bottom layer showing. (I didn't measure the width, but it depends on how flowy you want your skirt to be. Just make sure the fabric fits around your waist and hips.)
Roll one side edge and hem. Do this to both pieces of fabric.
Place the shorter piece of fabric on top of the longer, right sides of both fabric facing up. Fold the layers in half (right sides together) and sew the side seam.
You should have something that looks like a tube/skirt now. Take the strip you cut out from the first step. Fold it in half lengthwise, sew the side to create a band.
Fold the band in half, widthwise, right sides facing out, and slip it inside the skirt. The skirt should be inside out, and once you slip the band inside the skirt, the right sides of the skirt and band should face each other. Pin the edges, pleating as you go if the skirt is bigger than your waistband.
Hem raw edges, and you're done.
