Description

These measurements are for a camera strap 1.5" x 23.5" Measure your camera strap from leather bit to leather bit to adjust the length. If you're already an expert on making bows, you can skip ahead to step 5. (For any Dr. Who fans out there, this is secretly named the "Bowties are Cool" camera strap.)

Instructions

  1. Small img 0377

Pin two rectangles with right together and stitch 1/4" seam around, leaving a small gap on one long side.

  2. Small img 0378

Turn right side out and stitch the opening closed.

  3. Small img 0384

Accordion pleat in the center, and run a couple stitches through with a needle and thread to secure.

  4. Small img 0389

With a fabric scrap, tie a knot around the middle. Cut the ends and hide behind. Repeat with the remaining rectangles for a total of five bows.

  5. Small img 0393

Take one of the long strips. Double turn under between 1/4" - 3/8" on each end, press, and stitch.

  6. Small img 0396

With the 2.5 x 3 strips.... Double turn under one long edge a 1/4" and stitch. Align raw edges with the other long strip.

  7. Small img 0398

Double fold the raw edges under together 1/4" and stitch. Stitch again over your first seam to secure the fabric in place. Repeat on the other end.

  8. Small img 0399

With edges touching, pin bows in place leaving about an inch gap on either end between bow and contrast fabric.

  9. Small img 0406

Carefully edge stitch along the outer curve of each bow.

  10. Small img 0411

After stitching all bows in place, it's time to close it up. With right sides together, pin the strap pieces together. Stitch a 1/4" seam on both sides. If you centered the bows correctly, your seam should miss them...but if you accidentally sew them into the seam it's not noticeable. Lock the edges with a zig zag stitch.

Turn the strap right side out. It's a little tight, but not impossible. Pull on the back (sans bows) side rather than the front. It's slow going, but it comes through eventually. Gently press and voila!
