These Lotta from Stockholm shoes were already super cute--but I decided to add some extra oomph to them, in the form of chiffon ruffles. Now I look and feel like I've got cake on my feet. :) This is a simple method that can be used on any boring pair of sandals that you want to upcycle. And it was really quick too!

Description

These Lotta from Stockholm shoes were already super cute--but I decided to add some extra oomph to them, in the form of chiffon ruffles. Now I look and feel like I've got cake on my feet. :) This is a simple method that can be used on any boring pair of sandals that you want to upcycle. And it was really quick too!

Instructions

  1. Watch the video tutorial! Or scroll down for step by step instructions.

  2. Small 111285 2f2015 10 01 040841 step%2b1

Cut out a rectangle of chiffon or fabric you are using.

  3. Small 111285 2f2015 10 01 040853 step%2b2

The length equals the length of the shoe. For my sandals, I measured from the strap around my toes to the strap around my ankles. The width depends on how extravagant you want the ruffles

  4. Small 111285 2f2015 10 01 040911 step%2b3

Fold the fabric in half lengthwise, and sew down the seam.

  5. Small 111285 2f2015 10 01 041316 step%2b4

You should have 2 tubes: flip them right side out.

  6. Small 111285 2f2015 10 01 041345 step%2b5

Adjust the tubes so the seam is in the center.

  7. Small 111285 2f2015 10 01 041350 step%2b6

Cut out a piece of elastic equal to the length of the front of the shoe. (mine went from one strap to the other)

  8. Small 111285 2f2015 10 01 041356 step%2b7

Sew the elastic onto the seam of the tube of fabric.

  9. Small 111285 2f2015 10 01 041402 step%2b8

You will have to stretch the elastic as you sew.

  10. Small 111285 2f2015 10 01 041409 step%2b9

Dab drops of E6000 glue (or glue gun glue) to the ends of the elastic.

  11. Small 111285 2f2015 10 01 041417 step%2b10

Then glue the ruffles onto the straps.

  12. Small 111285 2f2015 10 01 041424 step%2b11

Tuck the ends under the straps.

  13. Small 111285 2f2015 10 01 041429 step%2b12

Clip with binder clips to hold in place, and let the glue dry overnight, or per the product instructions.

  14. Small 111285 2f2015 10 01 041437 step%2b13

Repeat all these steps on the other shoe.

  15. Small 111285 2f2015 10 01 041444 step%2b14

Once the glue is dried, you're finished!
