Here’s a cheap & simple way to add custom decor to your home. It’s easy enough to hit your local thrift store and find generic secondhand items that you can then add your own touch to.
Here’s a cheap & simple way to add custom decor to your home. It’s easy enough to hit your local thrift store and find generic secondhand items that you can then add your own touch to.
For this DIY I’m using a vase I found at my local thrift store for $1.99. For the custom look, I’m adding twine and repurposed jewelry.
Feel free to mix and match - rescue old jewelry, use miscellaneous hardware or a cherished pendant.
First add a coat of Mod Podge to the rim of the vase with the sponge brush. Then wrap the twine and a necklace around the rim. Use clothes pegs to keep the twine and jewelry in place while the glue dries. Feel free to add more details to the rim. For example, I added a shell detail to the front using a jump ring.
Once the glue is dry, fill the vase. I added rocks to the bottom then placed a bunch of pussy willows to the middle of the rock pile. The rocks help keep the pussy willows standing up in the middle of the vase.
Here's the final project - it took under 30 minutes to add some funk to my boring thrift store treasure.
I found the perfect home for the updated vase in my living room with the rest of my thrift store, dump and garage sale rescues.
