Set up your work area so your items are easily accessible. I started working on brown craft paper, and then left my bowls to dry on a trash bag I had set aside.
Step 1: Start by sanding your bowls down with the steel wool. Start with the coarse wool, then the medium and finally the fine before all of your old varnish is gone.
Step 2: Using a clean cotton cloth wipe off all of the dust and steel wool remnants from the bowls. Using a new clean cotton cloth dip it into your bowl of walnut oil and coat your entire bowl inside and out. Leave the bowls upside-down on a trash bag to dry for 2 hours or until dry to the touch.
Step 3: Re-coat your bowls again with the walnut oil and leave to dry for 24 hours. Re-coat one final time and allow to dry 24-48 hours until oil has hardened and bowls are dry to touch. The walnut oil will dry and harden into a natural varnish all on it's own-- once it's dry feel free to use them as normal.
