Basically, I took an old pair of jeans and took the legs and crotch bit off. I then unpicked the seams of both pillowcases to make 1 long strip of each and hemmed them with curved seams at both ends. I then gathered the top sides with long stitch. Next I folded over a seam on the bottom of the denim bit and fitted the gathered sides of the pillowcases to that seam. As you can just make out in the photo, I left an opening in the patterned layer so you can see the plain coloured layer peeking out underneath. Finally, I attached both layers to the denim with a normal stitch. Really sorry if I've totally confused everyone...
