Hello and welcome! This is my first project, so I hope you like it :) Shepherd's pie is a traditional English dish, dating back to the 1870's. It is commonly mistaken for Cottage pie, which uses beef. For a veggie alternative, you could use soya or Quorn mince. I'm not sure if Tofu would work? Shepherd's pie does not usually contain cheese, but I like to be different :). To make, it actually takes roughly an hour and a half and not the 2 hours 25 as indicated on the timer box!

Instructions

    Mouth-wateringly delicious and really filling! You will have to excuse the pictures as I don't have a digital camera, and my phone is only 2 mega pixels sorry!

    Peel and cut your potatoes but always be careful when using knives! Place the potatoes into a pan of boiling hot water and cook for 20 minutes. A good tip, if you cut up your potatoes into about 4 or 5cm pieces, they will cook quicker!

    Preheat your oven to 200 degrees (i'm not entirely sure what this is in farenheit). Place a small amount of cooking oil into a frying pan. When that has heated up, fry the minced lamb for 5 minutes until all the pink has dissappeared. Again, be careful as hot oil spits :(

    When all the pink has dissappeared, drain all the excess liquid away from the pan. You may want to use a collinder for this. Return the mince to the pan, and add the sauce and the desired amount of tomato puree.

    Cook your tinned vegtables for the time it says on the instructions, then add them to the pan, and stir. Put this mince mix into a an oven proof dish big enough.

    When your potatoes have finished boiling, drain the water and mash them. A good way to check if they are cooked, is to stick a knife into the potatoes. If it gets stuck, you need to boil them for longer. If not, then they are ready! Add butter to taste, and then grate in the cheese! Mash it all up until it's light and fluffy :)

    Place your mashed potato on top of the mince mix, and spread evenly. For an extra cheesy taste, I sprinkled some cheese on the top. Place in the middle of a hot oven for 40 minutes.

    40 minutes later, remove from the oven and tuck in. Bon appetite!
