I love this process that I call 'raw art journaling'. It's about expressing yourself and creating an art journal spread but without the requirement that it has to be pretty. The focus instead is on being with yourself, your feelings and your art in the present moment.

Cover your whole spread with craft paint, using white & one other colour.
Add more colour with a brayer.
Don't be afraid to use your fingers to apply paint (ensure that you're using non-toxic paint)
Adhere scraps of collage material with gel medium.
Sketch a simple face. I like to use a Stabilo All pencil and then activate the pencil lines with a water brush.
Use oil pastels and roughly draw in the shading and highlights. It helps if your oil pastels are quite soft.
Smudge the pastels with your fingers to create a smooth skin. Add more shading and highlights if needed.
Add scribbles to the hair with an applicator bottle with black paint.
Add scribbly writing with an applicator bottle. In this step I will usually express my thoughts freely.
Create drips with India ink, avoid the face.
