Description

Instructions

  1. Small img 7649 1313346466

Start by making your templates. You'll want one for the full shape of your bag and one for just the flap.

  2. Small img 7650 1313347035

Use the templates to cut out the fabric for the flap and front side of your bag.

  3. Small img 7651 1313347065

These are the two pieces you need.

  4. Small img 7652 1313347109

Now tape the template together and use this cut cut out the full shape for the back of the bag.

  5. Small img 7655 1313347153

Now cut a strip of fabric long enough to stretch around the diameter of the flap.

  6. Small img 7658 1313347188

I made my own piping by taking plastic string, putting it in the middle of the fabric and pinning in place.

  7. Small img 7659 1313347216

Sew the string tightly in place, removing the pins as you go.

  8. Small img 7660 1313347240

Lay the flap on top of the back of the bag, wrong sides facing out.

  9. Small img 7661 1313347270

Place the piping around the edge, so that the rough side is facing out, and the piece with the plastic is just on the inside of the fabric.

  10. Small img 7667 1313347309

    Sew in place.

  11. Small img 7662 1313347329

Fold right side out to check that you have a neat edge.

  12. Small img 7668 1313348200

Your bag should now look like this.

  13. Small img 7670 1313348552

Now attach the front pat of the bag using the same technique, adding pipping around the edges.

  14. Small img 7673 1313348577

Your bag should now look like this. Snip the pipping where it overlaps and stitch up the open edge.

  15. Small img 7671 1313348647

Now use the same half template to cut two pieces of silky lining fabric.

  16. Small img 7672 1313348804

Pin together, wrong sides facing out.

  17. Small img 7674 1313348808

    Sew around the edges.

  18. Small img 7675 1313348833

    Leaving the top edge unstitched.

  19. Small img 7678 1313348992

    Fold the flap inside out.

  20. Small img 7679 1313349004

Pin the top edges of one side to the lining of the flap and sew in place. Fold right way out and then sew the other side of the lining in place.

  21. Small img 8162 1313349117

Attach a twist lock closure to keep the bag closed.

  22. Small img 8160 1313349140

Attach a small loop of fabric to either side of the bag and then clip on a chain handle.

    All done!
