Description

I originally came up with this design for Valentine's Day, but you can wear this for any occasion! Feel free to swap out any of the colors to suit your style. For more details, like the list of specific polishes I used, visit my blog Liquid Jelly.

Instructions

  1. Small quilted heart tutorial collage

Start off by painting your nails with a light pink nail color.

  2. Small quilted heart tutorial collage 1

Use a black striper polish to draw three diagonal dotted lines.

  3. Small quilted heart tutorial collage 2

Repeat step 2, but in the opposite direction. Try to make big squares. Skip to step 7 to make simple quilted nails. Continue to step 4 for accent heart nails.

  4. Small quilted heart tutorial collage 3

With the black striper, draw the outline of a heart. There's room for error since we'll be coloring the heart in. So take your time shaping the heart. Just make sure the outer edge of the heart is crisp. I would draw the heart a little smaller than I did here so more of the quilt design shows. I made it big for the tutorial. I also used the edge of my nails to make one of the curves of the heart.

  5. Small quilted heart tutorial collage 4

Color in the heart with a silver holographic polish. I used 2 coats of Milani HD to make the heart sparkly and diamond-like.

  6. Small quilted heart tutorial collage 5

Now go back in with the black striping polish and draw a border around the colored heart. Stay within the black outline you already drew, this way you can just worry about shaping the inside edge of the border. Basically you are retracing the heart outline you drew in step 4.

  7. Small quilted heart tutorial collage 6

Pick out medium sized silver glitter from a glitter polish and place them where the dotted lines intersect. You can do this with a toothpick. When you're done, finish off with top coat and enjoy your nail art!
