I went to Taiwan for my summer holiday this year and my extended family there, keep a box of these stocked up under their coffee table in case they need to throw away something (like pips from grapes) and don't have anywhere to put it. Alternatively you could use them to store anything at short notice but they're great because you can make them out of any kind of paper, like a recycled calender or something - very eco-friendly!

Start off with an A4 sheet of paper.
Fold it along the centre parallel to the shortest side.
This is what you should end up with.
Then fold it in half again, down the centre, parallel to the shortest side.
This is what you should get.
This is where it gets tricky, because I don't know how to explain. Take one of the corners and flatten it to make a triangle.
Repeat on the other side. You should get this result.
Then rotate it and flatten it the other way.
Fold one side into the centre.
Then the other side.
Then again all the way round.
Fold the bottom up.
And on the other side.
Flip it upside-down, stick your hand in and push it out.
There - your trash box is done!
