About

Give a new look to some old picture frames with paint, burlap and clips. I love changing out the photos of my grandchildren often and using these open frames lets me do it without the trouble of taking the frames down and opening them up. Using a clip lets me change the photos in seconds.

You Will Need (9 things)

  • Picture Frames
  • Mini Clothes Pins s
  • Burlap
  • Chalk Paint
  • Hemp Rope
  • Hot Glue
  • Scissors
  • Paintbrush
  • Sand Paper

Steps (8 steps, 60 minutes)

  1. 1

Gather supplies. To make these quick change photo frames, I started with a simple, inexpensive frame. I used Waverly Chalk Paint in Celery and gave them a quick first coat. It takes less than 15 minutes to dry and it’s ready for a second coat.

  2. 2

Allow the paint to dry completely.

  3. 3

Paint the mini clothes pins to match the color of the frame. I also painted mini clothes pins to match. To paint these and to keep them from sticking together, I placed a toothpick between the clips.

  4. 4

Measure and cut burlap to size to fit into the frame. Place the burlap onto the back of the frame.. Behind the burlap, add any filler cardboard that came with the frame. Behind that, add the frame's glass. Finally, add the back panel of the frame. Place the assembled pieces inside the frame.

  5. 5

Sand the edges of the frame. Using a medium grit sand paper, give the frames a distressed look by sanding along the edges and raised lines of the frame.

  6. 6

Cut a small loop of rope to use for hanging the frame. Hot glue it onto the back of the frame.

  7. 7

Hot glue the mini clothes pin to the top center of the frame.

  8. 8

Repeat steps for as many frames as you want. I love how easily and quickly I can change the photos that I display.
