To start, you'll want something big and sparkly to be the focus of the attention on the hat. (I chose a jaguar) Around this, put a row of spikes (using the seam ripper to make little holes). ADVICE: use plastic ones. Your hat is gonna get heavy. Around the spikes, put some studs. This makes it stand out a bit more as the focus.
Sew on as many buttons as you can fit! (plastic ones are good, so your hat doesn't get too heavy). I threw in some other things to make it a bit more random, like badges and sparkly things.
Cover the rim with some cool material. Add studs around the edge. Glue on a bit of ribbon to separate the mess from the rim (you could also use a big chain, or anything else that looks cool).
The inside of your hat probably looks a hot mess right now. Go ahead and glue a piece of fabric or felt on the inside to cover it up.
Now you're ready to go out and show off how cool you are.
