in one ear, out the other...wait... what?

I got the idea for this craft from geekcrafts here's the link: http://geekcrafts.com/portal-hoops At first I thought they were earrings, but when I saw they weren't I thought it would be awesome to make some! They were very easy to make, I just had to buy the earrings and scrounge up some supplies that I already had lying around my house :) A note on drying times for paint, I didn't exactly time it, but an hour is a good bet that the paint will dry in time for a second coat. make sure it is completely dry though, you don't want your paint to peel off while messing with it. I'm also considering putting a laquer on it to protect the paint from chipping or being rubbed off. Enjoy!

Instructions

  1. Gather materials. You will need a pair of hoop earrings; flat, oblong and facing out (rather than to the sides). I got these at Fred Meyer's, and they have posts, so if you're new to pierced ears you can wear them sooner rather than waiting 6 months! You will also need orange, blue, and white acrylic paints, cups for them, a paint brush, scissors, newspaper to paint on, a hard, flat material that will be easy to cut through with scissors (I used some plastic from a flimsy three ring notebook), and tacky glue.

  2. Take the hoop earrings and paint one orange and the other a sky blue (my blue was too dark, but mixing it with white gave it the right look). I painted both sides, two coats each. Let them dry

  3. Trace out a pattern of the man on paper first. I used one of the hoops to get the size and the curve right. Cut out the man (two halves of him) from the plastic, making sure you cut a curve to fit the earrings. These will need to be painted white- I used a clear plastic so only one side needed to be painted. Let them dry.

  4. Using Tacky Glue I attached the the white man to the blue and orange portals (both dry) and let the glue dry overnight.
