I discovered this after falling asleep one night with braids in my hair, the next day I woke up and took them out and my mom asked me when I had bought a crimper. XD Sorry if it's hard to see some of the waves, my hair is really dark. :/

First, decide how big you want your "waves" to be. The bigger the braid, the bigger the waves. If you make your braids big enough, it will just make your hair look wavy, which is also cool. ;] Make sure your braids aren't too small, or it will just make your hair look frizzy.
Now, grab a chunk of hair to braid. I took a larger chunk, so my hair turned out more wavy then crimped. I later did a smaller section to achieve the crimped look.
Start braiding. Braid all the way down for a fuller look, or just braid the top for a funky look. Cool idea: Put a rubberband in your hair halfway down the section, then start braiding so only the middle part of the chunk of hair is crimped.
End your braid with an elastic band.
Take your flat iron and run it down the braid, careful not to burn the elastic band. The braid should be heated all the way through. If you don't have a flat iron, wet your hair and sleep on it so it dries. It will have the same effect.
Let the braid cool completely. If it doesn't, the waves may fall. Now, take out the elastic band and carefully unbraid the braid. Don't brush it out, or it will just be frizzy.
Spray it with some hairspray so it holds it's shape, and you're done! Show off your waves!
