Ages ago my brother asked me to make him a Pokéball keyring and in return I got comic books ^^ His birthday is coming up so I thought I'd make him a plushie version. I also thought - what the hell! I'll make a How-to as well :D So here is my Pokéball tutorial! Hope it isn't too confusing! If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask :D The keyring hangs kind of slanted - but I like it like that :D It's more figity than difficult - but stick with it and it should be fine :D I want to see your versions!

Instructions

  1. Small img 0308 1278533775

First off, gather all your supplies. Draw an eye shape on your piece of paper and cut it out. Make it to your desired size - mine is 10.5cm x 4.5cm (roughly). -If you are making a keyring, push the ribbon through the small hole of the keychain - until it gets about half way and put to the side. You will need this later. (I choose 8cm for my keyrings so they dangle at a nice length, go for shorter if you want.)

  2. Small img 0309 1278533904

Pin the pattern to the red felt and cut out 3. Repeat for the white.

  3. Small img 0315 1278533992

Hold 2 of the red 'eyes' (going to refer to them as ovals now :P) together - match sides so they are near enough equal. Whipstitch around the edge. Use a thread as close to the colour of the felt as possible. Repeat for 2 of the white.

  4. Small img 0317 1278534113

Tuck the last of the red ovals into the middle of the two and stitch. And repeat for the white. HOWEVER, if you are making a keyring place the ribbon in between where you are about to sew - make sure the keychain is hanging the opposite way to what you want. The ends of the ribbon should be sticking out.

  5. Place each 'cup' shape inside each other - seams facing out! And sew along the side, leaving room to be able to turn it out and stuff. I stitched from where the 3 segments meet in the middle to the other middle (does that make sense?) It doesn't matter what colour of thread you use as it will be covered up :] I used pink, green and blue just to get rid of lose ends.

Now turn it out and stuff. Fill it quite firmly. When it is nearly full start to close the hole - adding extra stuffing as you go.

(The black is a lot longer than in the pic ;P) Now cut out a long strip of black - quite thick and as straight as possible. Also, cut out a black circle and white circle. This will be the 'button'. Make sure there is a definate border if you place them together. Sew them together and put to the side. (Try not to drop it as you may not find it and have to make another one. Although you probably aren't as messy as me! :P)

Place the black around the centre. Mine didn't quite reach but luckily the 'button' was big enough to cover it :D Whipstitch your way around the whole entire thing - each short end as well.

  9. I don't have a picture for this one.. Place the button on the centre of the ball and whipstitch it.

Ta-da!! You have your very own Pokéball! :D
