Yes it is, the yarn won't break. I like to stuff with heavy soft cloth so I don't get hurt but you can stuff with tennis balls too!

If you want to knit a pair I suggest this pattern

also, to give more weight (which i like) you can add tiny bags of rice inside, then stuff with fluff to soften the blow!
