About
I'm pretty sure that this is the first ,,Cheburashka" plushie/keyring/bag charm tutorial in internet.
It's also my first project ^w^
The birthday of my friend was coming and i wanted to make her a cute DIY ,,Cheburashka", because she just adores him!
I was looking for a ,,Cheburashka" tutorial on the internet, but I just couldn't find ANY! >.<
So i challenged myself and made a cheburashka keyring ^^
In the process I made lots of photos, so that I could post it as a project here.
Hope you'll like it!!

You Will Need (8 things)
- A Little Bit Of Cotton
- Black Pen
- Light Brown Felt
- Paper And Pencil
- White Felt
- Needle And Thread
- Brown Felt
- Red Pen
Steps (50 steps, 170 minutes)
-
1
Draw a sketch on paper of a ,,Cheburashka".
-
2
Cut out the body-and-head part as shown in the picture.
Set aside the sketch. You will need it later.
-
3
Cut out the chest, so that you would have 3 parts of cheburashka: the head, the chest and the outer part of the body as shown in the picture.
-
4
Take some brown felt. Fold it in half.
Place the outer part of the body on the brown felt and define it as shown in the picture.
Attention!! Don't draw the chest part here.
Cut this piece out.You should have 2 identical pieces (because you folded the felt in half).
-
5
On one of the pieces draw the chest part and cut it out.
-
6
Now you should have 3 brown felt pieces: one full-body piece, one outer-body piece and one chest piece.
-
7
Cut such a piece of light-brown felt and put in on top of the full-body piece as shown in the picture.
-
8
Put the outer-body piece on top as shown in the picture. It should fit perfectly.
Make sure that the light-brown felt piece is not too big or too small. It should also stick out a bit, because later it will be holding the head.Set aside.
-
9
Take your head sketch and define it on brown felt. Cut out.
Repeat this step (or fold it in half from the beginning and do it only one time).
-
10
You should have two head pieces.
-
11
Take your head sketch and cut out the inner part of the head sketch.
-
12
On one of the head parts define the inner head sketch as shown in the picture. Cut it out.
-
13
It should look like this.
-
14
Cut out a piece of light-brown felt. This piece should be round and it should't be bigger as the head piece.
-
15
Take the body parts, that you've set aside.
Remember the longer ligh-brown felt piece that sticked out?
Put the full-head piece underneath. Then, on top of the light-brown piece that is sticking out, put a light brown round piece. Then put an outer head piece.
It should look like this.Set aside.
-
16
Now it's time to take out your old sketch!!
Cut out an ear.
One ear is enough, if you want to make them identical. -
17
Take some brown felt, fold it in half.
Define the ear, but make the end of the ear a bit longer, because you are going to stick in the ends in the head.
Cut it out.Repeat this step twice.
-
18
You should now have 4 pieces.
-
19
Put the inner light-brown head piece and the outer brown head piece aside (look at he top of this picture).
Then put one ear piece on the left and another ear piece on the right, so that the extra sticking out sections would be on the full-head piece. -
20
Put the light-brown head piece and the outer brown head piece again.
It should now look like this.
It's time to make legs and arms!!
-
21
Cut out small legs out of brown felt (you can use the legs that you drew in your sketch as an assistance).
Don't forget to make them a bit longer on the top. -
22
Stick them in.
-
23
Cut out and arm from your sketch.
Take some brown felt, fold it in two.
Define the arm, but make it a bit longer.Cut out.
You should have two elongated arms. -
24
It should look like this now.
-
25
Let's start filling in the ear with cotton.
Take a needle and some brown thread.
Stitch 2/3 of the ear edges (i used a blanket stitch for it), then fill it in with cotton, stitch the last edge. Don't cut off the thread. -
26
Stitch the inner ear outline with a simple stitch.
Do the same with another ear.
-
27
Take some white felt and cut out 2 small circles for eyes.
Glue them to the light-brown head piece.
Take a black marker/pen and draw the eyes. -
28
Draw the nose too.
Take a red pen and draw a mouth :) -
29
Glue the outer head piece...
-
30
...to the light-brown head piece.
-
31
The head should look like this.
Don't glue it yet. -
32
Take the full-body part and glue hands to it as shown in the picture.
-
33
Take the outer-body part.
-
34
Glue as shown in the picture.
Don't glue it all, just the parts near the chest-cutout. -
35
Put the elongated light-brown piece on it as shown, so that it would stick to the glue.
-
36
You should now have 2 parts of body:
full-body parts with glued hands on it
and
outer-body part with light-brown piece. -
37
Put the parts together.
-
38
Take a needle and some brown thread.
Start sewing the edges of the body (blanket stitsch preffered).
Attention!!! Look at the step 39! -
39
When you approach the part, where the legs should be, stick them in (stick in only the elongated part).
-
40
Proceed sewing as shown in the picture (sew in the legs too).
After you sew in the legs... -
41
...start stuffing cotton.
-
42
Proceed sewing with the cotton inside.
Don't make your ,,Cheburashka" too fat :) -
43
Don't cut off the thread.
Take the full-head part with ears and put the elongated light-brown body part on it as shown in the picture. You can also set the ears aside.
-
44
Put the face on top and start sewing in.
As you sew, sew in the ears.
Attention!!! Look at the step 45! -
45
Don't forget to stuf in a bit of cotton as you sew.
,,Cheburashka" shouldn't look as he's starving :) -
46
Now the plushie ,,Cheburashka" should look like this from the front...
-
47
...and like this from the back.
-
48
You can also make a keyring from this plushie.
Just buy the keyring-part at a supermarket... -
49
...and sew it on!
-
50
Here you go- a ,,Cheburashka" keyring!! It can also be used as a bag charm or any other thing. Just let your imagination flow~
I hope this tutorial was helpful ^^
