Make Yarn From Plastic Bags

You Will Need

  • How to make a yarn. Plastic Yarn - Step 1
    Step 1

    Take a plastic bag and lay it flat on the ground. Make sure you get all the air out.

    Step 2

    Fold bag in half and then in half again.

    Step 3

    Cut off bottom of bag and handles. Cut bag into approximately one inch strips.

    You should have a bunch of strips that look like this.

    This part is kind of hard to explain with a picture, but I'll try...
    Pull apart all of the little pieces that you cut and overlap two pieces and pull to chain them together.

    You should pull so that you end up with a tight knot.

    Step 7

    After stringing a few bags together you will have a really long string of plastic yarn.

    Step 8

    Roll plastic yarn into a ball and start crocheting! You can treat this just as you would any other yarn.

It wouldn't be as thick, but I found a tute on making a pillowcase into one long continuous "yarn"... it would work for a plastic bag, too... I should try it and post it as a version. Happy

I've been knitting one for a while but since I always say no to plastic bags in stores, I never have enough to finish my bag. Hehe
