Continuing last week's inspiration of flannel, I decided to upcycle a button up shirt into a skirt. This is another great way to sport flannel this fall, especially with tights or leggings. The sewing skills for this project are fairly simple! Check out how I made it, below --
Continuing last week's inspiration of flannel, I decided to upcycle a button up shirt into a skirt. This is another great way to sport flannel this fall, especially with tights or leggings. The sewing skills for this project are fairly simple! Check out how I made it, below --
1) Cut the top portion of the shirt off. Right under the arm is an ideal point to start cutting. Use the lines as a guide!
2) Trim/straighten as needed.
3) Create folded pleats all along the top. The width of each pleat - and the number of pleats - will depend entirely on where you want the skirt to sit on you, and your personal measurements. Try it one when needed- remember, there's buttons in the front, so you can put it on that way.
4) Pin the pleats all around the top.
5) Sew right across, along the edge.
Keep sewing!
6) Pin bias tape along the edge, placing the raw edge of the skirt into the fold.
7) Sew!
Continue sewing all around.
8) Hand sew the snap closures on to the top of the skirt, lining up with the buttons.
