I'm working on a pirate themed quite book for my son for Christmas. This is part of one of the pages I'm making.

You Will Need (4 things)

  • Ruler
  • Lighter
  • Fabric markers
  • Fabric

Steps (12 steps, 120 minutes)

  1. 1

I started by burning the edges of the fabric so they wouldn't fray and look old.

  2. 2

I then began to sketch out the land and a few landmarks in the sea.

  3. 3

I wanted my map to resemble a 15th Century map I found on Google so I drew waves using a blue fabric marker. Every few lines I made a thicker bold line to make it more visually interesting.

  4. 4

Even though I couldn't find any examples of maps with sea monsters drawn in them, I wanted mine to have a little sea monster- so I drew one up in the corner.

  5. 5

Most of the sea maps I found had a ship drawn somewhere on the water so I made sure to inlude one in mine.

  6. 6

Using a ruler I added a Nautical star which gives the directions on the map. I drew straight lines across my map so that it was seperated in sections like several antique maps (probably much later than the 15th C one I based my original map off of)

  7. 7

I then began to draw in my land marks. A dark forest, swamp, ruined castle, mountains and a wasteland.

To finish off my map I sewed two felt circles together and embroidered a skull and crossbones on it to make a seal. I sewed velcro on the back side and a piece of velcro on the backside of my map when it's rolled up.
