Pink And Black Rockabilly Dress

Made with lots of love and lots of patience.

I made this pretty awesome dress with the backs of two leftover black t-shirts I used for another project and pink and black striped material I already in my fabric stash. I didn't exactly use a pattern to go by. I pretty much just winged it with lots of trying on, measuring, taking of, sewing, etc. Since I have a smaller bust, I had the stripes go horizontal to give the illusion of a slightly larger chest. Not sure if it worked haha. Because I am also only about 5'2", I had the stripes go vertical at the hem to give the illusion of more of a longer lower body. Not sure if that worked either ;) The only other thing I would change is to add some darts in the bust on the lower sides to take it in a little so that it gives the bust a little more shape. It took about two years to finish as once I got to the zipper, I panicked and put it aside. My zippered garments have been hit or miss in the past :) Of course, going back to school and working full time while in school didn't exactly give me any time to finish it either. I've since found a great zipper tutorial and finally finished it. Now I just need some place swanky to wear it to :) Zipper tutorial that saved my dress from being scrapped: http://sewmamasew.com/blog2/2007/05/installing-a-zipper-tutorial-by-michelle/
