About
Pillowcases are easy to make and are very customizable with different fabric prints so they make a great gift!
You will need 3/4 yard of the main fabric and 1/4 yard of the band fabric.
(If you buy the fabric for this at the store, you can have them cut the exact measurement and then you don't even have to cut it at all when you make your pillowcase.
If you are using fabric from your stash, sadly, you'll have to cut it.
I tend to buy new fabric for every pillowcase I make.. I love easy things..)

You Will Need (2 things)
- 3 yd Main Fabric
- 1 yd Band Fabric
Steps (9 steps, 30 minutes)
-
1
Lay out both fabrics, and sew the band fabric to the main fabric, lengthwise. (The seam will be at the top of this photo, if you can't see it)
**NOTE** If your band fabric has a front and back, mine doesn't cause its a solid color, then put the RIGHT SIDES TOGETHER before you sew.
-
2
Roll up the bottom of the main fabric.
-
3
Match the seam you sewed in step 1 to the other edge of the Band Fabric.
This is FUN huh?
-
4
Pin it together, it'll look like this.
Now sew it together, make sure your roll is tight inside so that you don't accidently sew some of the main fabric.

This is the fun part!!
Reach inside the long tube and pull out the rolled up Main Fabric, it'll look awkward, but it works!
**Make sure you don't leave any pins from step 4 in there, it'll hurt pretty bad when your fingers discover it while doing this step.
Not that I know by experience or anything..

Now you have this.

Fold it in half, and This is the step where you do something that feels VERY wrong when sewing, but trust me it is so very right.
Pin and sew around the edges of the pillowcase WITH THE RIGHT SIDE OF FABRIC OUT.
Gosh, its awkward.. You won't want to do it.. Your brain will be wanting to sew the INSIDE, but this is the trick to having no raw edges.
I think its called a French seam.
**Try to keep a small seam allowance, like maybe a 1/4 of an inch.

Now flip it inside out, and sew around the edges AGAIN, this time sewing OVER the raw edges you just sewed. (is sewed a word?)
**If you had a small seam allowance, then it'll be easy to sew over the edges, using a half-inch or even 3/4 inch seam. (There will still be room for a standard size pillow to fit in there)

Now you're done! Flip it right-side out and you'll see the fabulousness of having no raw edges and the person you give this to will love you forever and swoon over your amazing sewing skills.
