About
I discovered Trader Joe's peanut butter pretzels while I was in New York and really craved them when I got home. Luckily, the shop near me sells American peanut butter, so I decided to figure out how to make my own!
These aren't as crunch as the ones we bought but they do taste great and any peanut butter addict will love them.

You Will Need (10 things)
- 2 ¼ cup Whole Wheat Flour
- ½ cup Bread Flour
- 2 tbsp Baking Soda
- 1 tbsp Sugar
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1 Egg(s)
- 1 package active Yeast
- 1 jar American Peanut Butter
- 1 ¾ cup Warm Water
- Breadmaker or hand-mixer
Steps (10 steps, 100 minutes)
-
1
Place the whole wheat flour, bread flour, sugar, salt and yeast in to a bread mixer or a bowl.
(Danger: do not add the baking soda or you will end up with an expanding dough monster!)
-
2
Set the breadmaker to knead or use a hand mixer to mix the dry ingredients together. Slowly add the warm water and let it mix in.
-
3
Once you've added all the water, let the dough knead until it forms a thick dough.
-
4
Place the dough in a bowl (as modelled by Tom).
Put a pan of water on to boil.
-
5
Take a clump of dough and roll it out in to a long thick strip. Take a knife and score down the center.
-
6
Fill the center crevice thick with peanut butter and then fold the pretzel stick closed.
-
7
Cut in to small squares with a sharp knife.
-
8
When the water is boiling add the baking soda and drop in the pretzel bites. Let them cook for a few seconds and then when they rise to the surface, fish them out with a spatula.
-
9
Place the boiled dough balls on a baking sheet and bake for 40 minutes in an oven heated to 350'C.
-
10
Leave your pretzels to cool and harden and then enjoy!
