Description

This pretty scarf is just the thing to protect you from cool summer breezes. Choose floaty cotton fabrics such as voile or lawn, which are inexpensive and will drape well. Cutting out • From four patterned fabrics cut eleven rectangles each 38 x 13 cm (15 x 5. in).

Instructions

  1. Pin the rectangles with right sides together along the long edges to make a long strip of assorted patterned fabrics. Stitch the long edges, taking a 1 cm (3⁄8 in) seam allowance. Press the seams open.

  2. Fold the scarf lengthwise in half. Pin the raw edges together, matching the seams. Stitch the raw edges, taking a 1 cm (3⁄8 in) seam allowance and leaving a 10 cm (4 in) gap to turn the scarf right side out. Clip the corners then turn the scarf to the right side by pulling it through the gap. Press the scarf along the seam then press along the fold. Slipstitch the gap closed, see Hand Stitches.

  3. Clip 18 pom-poms off a length of pom-pom trim. To finish, sew nine pom-poms equally spaced apart to each end of the scarf.
