my friend gave me a couple of fabric samples that she had no used for, so i decided to try make a make up pouch out of one of the pieces. mine is slightly wonky when open as i just assumed the fabric was square and it turned out it was slightly off square. whoopsie!
my friend gave me a couple of fabric samples that she had no used for, so i decided to try make a make up pouch out of one of the pieces. mine is slightly wonky when open as i just assumed the fabric was square and it turned out it was slightly off square. whoopsie!
firstly i cut some lining out so that it was about an inch wider than the fabric on each side. then i pinned the lining to the right side of the fabric. the lines in the photo are a guide for my sewing machine.
i sewed the lining to the fabric using my sewing machine along all four sides leaving about a 2 inch gap on the final edge. i then turned it right-side out and ladder stitched the hole closed.
next i folded the fabric and lining in half so that the right side of the fabric was together and pinned one of the short edges. ONLY ONE! i then sewed this using my sewing machine.
right this bit is hard to explain but imagine an envelope. you need to fold the long length over so that the fabric is facing each other and you are sewing a triangle across back to where you just sewed together. the two corners of the long edge should be in the same place. the picture in step 5 might help...
this picture is as if folded in half, the dotted line is the edge you have sewn in step 3. then you would fold the corner at A to the corner at B. pin and sew along the top edge. (best idea is to pin and turn inside out to check you end up with an envelope shape. )
so when you've got that and turned it right side out you should get this envelope shape.
finally i sewed a button hole onto the flap of the envelope and a button where i wanted on the base and voila! you could use a popper if you wanted, or velcro or whatever.
