Due to shortage of money this Christmas and my Mum taking up knitting again I decided to create a patchwork storage roll. It's the patchworking that takes a long time, so, you can always use a block piece of material to speed things up.
Due to shortage of money this Christmas and my Mum taking up knitting again I decided to create a patchwork storage roll. It's the patchworking that takes a long time, so, you can always use a block piece of material to speed things up.
Cut two small rectangles of material and iron them.
Pin right sides together and sew down one side.
Iron the seam flat and butterflied out on the back.
Keep adding onto these two rectangles building up the patchwork pattern until the rectangle is 14" x 18" Sew the seams down flat (butterflied out)when joining the pieces.
Add 4" of material at the 'top' and 8" of material at the bottom. Cut each end of the 'top' material diagonally. This will be the top flap that prevents the needles falling out of the top of the roll.
Cut another piece of material the same size to line the inside of the roll and iron both.
Pin and sew the lining and patchwork pieces right sides facing together but leave the 'bottom' edge open. Fold the ribbon in half and sew it into the seam about 7" from the bottom when sewing along the vertical edges of one side. Turn inside out.
Turn the bottom up 1/2" and sew. then turn the whole 8" of the bottom fabric up taking care not to get any patchwork on the inside. Sew up each side leaving the horizontal side open.
Iron the top flap down ensuring no patchwork is visible on the inside.
Mark the pockets on the botton turned up flap about 1" wide. Sew vertically down.
Add needles and other equiptment.
