About

I have seen several versions of paper balls made from circles here and elsewhere.
I have also seen light ornaments usings solo cups and christmas lights.
Then as New Year's Eve was approaching I combined the concepts into a new bright idea!!

You Will Need (3 things)

  • 1 Ribbon
  • 1 Craft Glue
  • 7 String Lights 10 Count Battery Operated

Steps (18 steps, 120 minutes)

  1. 1

    Gather the supplies:
+Paper in your choice of colors (with Valentine's Day coming up I chose Pink, White, and Red)
+Paper Punch (I used the Fiskar's Extra Large Seal of Approval Scalloped Circle which is apx 2 inches across)
+String of Lights 10 count (I tried this with l.e.d. and standard christmas style lights which I found at the Dollar Tree)
+3/16" hole punch (this was the perfect size for both sets of lights- I had this size on my crop a dile big bite but they also have this hole punch individually at the craft store.)
    +Craft Glue

  2. 2

    Begin by punching out circles.

  3. 3

You will need 20 circles. Since I am using 3 colors I tried to distribute evenly -I used 7 red, 7 white, and 6 pink.

  4. 4

There are 15 scallops around this circle so I split that into 3 sets of 5. Fold down the set of 5 scallops until it is flush on either side.

  5. 5

Repeat on the other 2 sides making a triangle.

  6. 6

Do this on all 20 circles creating 20 triangles.

  7. 7

Punch a hole in the center of a triangle.

  8. 8

Do this in the 10 triangles that will have lights going around the middle of the ball. For this I chose 5 white and 5 red.

  9. 9

Choose 5 triangle to be the bottom of the ball.

  10. 10

Glue these together along one side lining up the scallops.

  11. 11

For the 10 triangles with holes that go around the middle- They will line up differently.

  12. 12

Begin gluing the triangles with holes to the bottom of the ball.

  13. 13

You should now have all 10 of the triangles with holes glued in a ring to the base of the ball.

  14. 14

Insert a light into one of the triangles.

  15. 15

Continue inserting lights into all of the holes.

  16. 16

Begin attaching the last 5 triangles being sure NOT to close in the battery pack!

  17. 17

I like to pull the light cord up to the top of the ball when gluing the last in.

  18. 18

Let the glue dry before jostling the ball too much. But your light ball is ready to go!
