Kids not sure where their knickers are kept? Other half hopeless at putting away the washing? Maybe you're just like me and have a really strange sense of humor. Either way, label up your drawers of drawers with Dandelyne's mini embroidery kit. This tutorial will take you through how to use your kit to embroider a design and attach the fabric to the mini frames - feel free to treat it as a general tutorial for the kit as well as the specific project detailed if you're not wanting to label up your y-fronts. Kits available from Dandelyne's Etsy store or http://dandelyne.com/

Description

Kids not sure where their knickers are kept? Other half hopeless at putting away the washing? Maybe you're just like me and have a really strange sense of humor. Either way, label up your drawers of drawers with Dandelyne's mini embroidery kit. This tutorial will take you through how to use your kit to embroider a design and attach the fabric to the mini frames - feel free to treat it as a general tutorial for the kit as well as the specific project detailed if you're not wanting to label up your y-fronts. Kits available from Dandelyne's Etsy store or http://dandelyne.com/

Instructions

  1. Small 109796 2f2015 07 07 201340 wp 20150701 18 27 05 pro 5b1 5d

Sketch your pants (or use the transfer paper provided in your Dandelyn kit) onto your base material. Clamp it into the 3" embroidery hoop.

  2. Small 109796 2f2015 07 07 201453 wp 20150701 18 45 30 pro 5b1 5d

Starting with yellow thread, using 2 strands of the 6, satin stitch your pants shape.

  3. Small 109796 2f2015 07 07 201548 wp 20150701 18 56 56 pro 5b1 5d

Switch to two strands of grey thread, and satin stitch the waistband of your pants. Use a backstitch to add the 'Y' shape, and to write 'pants!' across the top.

  4. Small 109796 2f2015 07 07 201715 wp 20150701 19 04 18 pro 5b1 5d

Clamp your pants into the 5.5cm frame included with the kit, after first removing the attached necklace chain (set this aside to use in another project - waste not want not!). Trim your excess fabric, leaving around 5mm/0.5cm flapping at the back (see next step for photo).

  5. Small 109796 2f2015 07 07 201921 wp 20150701 19 04 25 pro 5b1 5d

Here's what your trimmed back will look like.Tighten the top clamp well, avoiding wrinkles in your pants fabric.

  6. Small 109796 2f2015 07 07 202019 wp 20150701 19 09 47 pro 5b1 5d

Use a glue gun (or superglue if you'd don't own a glue gun) to secure the flapping fabric edge down to the back insert.

  7. Small 109796 2f2015 07 07 202119 wp 20150701 19 11 10 pro 5b1 5d

Make sure to smooth all the fabric down so that none remains outside the hoop.

  8. Small 109796 2f2015 07 07 202210 wp 20150701 19 12 24 pro 5b1 5d

Carefully glue the back panel in place.

  9. Small 109796 2f2015 07 07 202245 wp 20150701 19 15 36 pro 5b1 5d

Stick it to your knickers drawer! If it's temporary use a large wadge of bluetack, or for more permanent labeling use your glue gun. You could create a whole range of these for your different drawer contents - t-shirts, socks, jeans, pjs - whatever you need! You could even go crazy and expand your embroidered labels to your craft room, kitchen, bathroom - basically anywhere with drawers.
