Combine the perfect mix of prints, textures, trims, and colors to customize your own version of this whimsical Owl pajama case. Note Instead of using pre-covered piping, make up plain cord piping using your own fabric.

Scale the grid pattern pieces to the desired size onto plain pattern paper, adding a 5⁄8-in. (1.5-cm) seam allowance all around. Cut the fronts and backs in printed cotton, cotton lining, and batting (wadding). Transfer the construction markings on the pattern to the fabric, using tailor’s tacks.
Place the upper back piece and lining piece RS together, and then lay on top of the matching batting (wadding) piece. Pin and sew the straight bottom edge with a 5⁄8 in. (1.5 cm) seam allowance and then press flat toward the lining. Fold the lining portion back over the batting so that the WS is against the batting layer. Repeat with the lower back pieces.
Pin around the remainder of the upper and lower back sections so that all the layers lie flat and meet at the edges. Stay stitch or baste (tack) all round the three sides to hold the layers in place.
Take the front pattern piece and lay the upper and lower backs onto it so that the upper back is overlapping the lower back and fits within the front pattern piece. Pin the two backs in position. Stitch a box shape at either side of the overlap to secure, leaving a 71⁄4-in. (18-cm) gap. Set the back case aside.
Fuse large enough scraps of fabric with webbing to cut out the tummy, eyes, beak, eyebrows, ears, and feet. Cut out all the pieces required.
Cut the curving feather ruffles from the contrast fabrics, using the pattern gridlines to make sure that the pieces are cut on the bias to reduce fraying of the raw edges.
Take the first curved bias strip and pin it across the bottom of the tummy piece in a straight line. Sew across the top of the strip with a 1⁄4-in. (7-mm) seam. Pin and stitch each strip above the one below so that the bottom of the upper frill covers the stitch line of the frill underneath. Alternate the prints as you go. Continue pinning until all the feather pieces are laid out evenly in stripes and extending wider than the tummy piece.
