I have some really cool friends. Sometimes they’re just not that good at gifts. So when I received these ‘realistic’ owl figurines from a mate, I was happy at least that he’d remembered I liked owls, and making plans to tzush them up a little. The good news is that there’s no shortage of figurines out there that don’t quite hit the mark in the style department, and they’re usually pretty well priced. So you shouldn’t have an issue finding one for yourself (if you haven’t already been gifted something that needs a facelift).

Description

I have some really cool friends. Sometimes they’re just not that good at gifts. So when I received these ‘realistic’ owl figurines from a mate, I was happy at least that he’d remembered I liked owls, and making plans to tzush them up a little. The good news is that there’s no shortage of figurines out there that don’t quite hit the mark in the style department, and they’re usually pretty well priced. So you shouldn’t have an issue finding one for yourself (if you haven’t already been gifted something that needs a facelift).

Instructions

Step 1: Spray paint. I went straight to spray painting without priming because the owls were already matte grey. If you have figurines that are a bit shiny, I’d recommend coating them in a grey primer. It makes the gold spray paint stick, and the colour pop much brighter. You might need two coats. I had to turn the owls over and get their bottom halves on the second coat.

Step 2: Once the owls dried, I used the paint brush to coat the bottom half of the owls with the glue in an irregular line. I poured a liberal amount of glitter into the tray and then I rolled the owls in the glitter. Once the owls are covered to your satisfaction, put them aside to dry.

Step 3: Take the black marker pen and colour the irises black. I used the beads as a guide to see what area I needed to colour. Once you’re happy that there will be no gold showing through, turn on your hot glue gun and fix the beads to the eyes. The resulting effect is much more modern and fits with my décor!
