To begin with, you need twelve half-square papers.
The obvious way to do this is to cut some origami paper in half.
But what i like to do is make an almost-perfect half square by this method: Take a sheet of A3 paper and fold it in half along its width and into thirds along its length. Repeat this on another piece of A3 paper and cut both along the folds.
Fold one of your half-squares in half along its width.
Fold both of the edges into the middle to match up with the fold.
Fold the square you've just created in half diagonally.
And flip it over so it looks like this.
Now fold the corner in so it aligns with the center fold and looks like this, sort of a half kite with another tab.
Repeat this on the other side. (It will not be a mirror image, but will be the same if rotated)
Now unfold it.
There should be a diagonal valley fold that goes from the middle of one side to the middle center of the other side. It stops in the middle of one side. Do not fold it any further than it already goes. If it is a mountain fold instead of a valley fold to begin with, just turn the whole thing over.
Where the fold ends in the middle of the page, there should be another fold going up and down. collapse that fold so that it looks like the picture.
Repeat steps 11 and 12 on the other side.
Now fold it in half.
This part is a little confusing. On the side facing you, the side of the paper will extend farther than that of the other side. fold that extension back on itself so that it matches the other side.
Repeat on the reverse side.
Your paper should now look like this.
Now fold the little tabs that stick out at the bottom back on the body so that they are out of the way.
Repeat. Here's a side view.
Now you have an individual piece!
Repeat steps 4-20 on the other eleven pieces. Note: it is important that the direction you make the folds is the same on all twelve pieces!
To assemble it, take the body (the view in steps 17 and 18) and insert the flap of another piece into a slot on the side of it.
(The flap).
(The slot).
Here's what it should look like.
Keep putting the parts together and eventually...
You'll have a finished piece!
