You Will Need (4 things)
- 1 Large Bramley Apple
- 150 g Oregon Grapes
- 220 g Caster Sugar
- Finely grated zest and juice of ½ a Lemon
Steps (4 steps, 25 minutes)
-
1
Roughly chop the whole apple – core, skin and all – into small cubes. Don’t worry, these fibrous bits will be sieved out later and the large amounts of pectin they contain will actually help create a smooth set to the finished jelly.
-
2
Tip the apple into a medium saucepan with the Oregon grapes,
sugar, lime zest and juice. Gently simmer on a low heat for 30
minutes, stirring occasionally. -
3
While still steaming hot, press the mixture through a metal sieve
using the back of a spoon and pour the strained liquid into sterilised
jars. -
4
Serve by spreading generous helpings of the jelly in a peanut butter
sandwich for a classic all-American favourite, made even more
‘American’ by frying in butter on both sides until crisp, golden and
oozing.
