This is a super easy tutorial for crafters of all skill level. Use an old t-shirt and some items from around your house to make this super sweet scarf to keep you warm in the winter months.
This is a super easy tutorial for crafters of all skill level. Use an old t-shirt and some items from around your house to make this super sweet scarf to keep you warm in the winter months.
Find a shirt that you are willing to mangle and lay it out flat. The larger the shirt you use, the longer the scarf will be. Cut off the top of the shirt, from armpit to armpit. You can let your dog help if you want. Oh, don't forget also cut off the bottom hem also.
Turn your shirt tube hamburger way (vertical) and cut strips, stopping about an inch from the top. I made each of my strips an inch-ish wide.
Now get angry. Turn into the Hulk and stretch out each strip of shirt. The longer you stretch each piece the longer your scarf will be
This step is optional! Once I had stretched out all my little sections I snipped 3 of the strings off about an inch down from the area you don't want to cut. I then made a braid. I ended the braid and then tied the strings back onto their corresponding midget strings.
Once you have secured the braid, take the uncut section and start to gather so that the strings are all in one bunch. It should form into one big loop now and you have your basic scarf.
This is how your scarf will become unique. I found some things I had around my house and worked with that. I wrapped the leather string around the uncut section and secured with hot glue. I then added some necklace chain I had and a cheap feather earring. I'm pretty happy with how mine turned out!
This is how mine turned out! It surprisingly keeps me pretty warm. You can't really tell but it's a burgundy shade, I like to wear it with jeans and a white tee, but you can wear yours with whatever you like. I would love to see how yours turns out!!!!
