You can purchase roving and needlefelting needles on ebay. More and more yarn stores are selling these supplies. Be very careful with your fingers and the needles as they are barbed. Not recommended for children.

Choose your favorite landscape photo, or any inspiration. Then rummage through your stash of roving!
Use a large sponge or piece of foam as your "save your table" base, as you'll be poking and stabbing the roving into the cotton base sheet (or recycle your used fabric softener sheets, or just needlefelt your roving to itself). As you can see I have a variety of needles, the more needles, the faster the landscape will come together, however single needles are good for details.
Layer your background colours, in this case white and blue for sky and clouds.
Find your horizon, for this example that is the river bank and reflection. Start stabbing the roving together. You will notice it is getting stuck to your sponge/foambase. From time to time, lift the cotton base off the foam. Otherwise your work will be hard to remove when you're finished.
Keep layering your roving, stab away! Repeat until you're happy with your image. Don't forget to peel it off the foam from time to time.
It will start to come together.
The back will look something like this.
And when you're finished, you'll have a wonderful needlefelted landscape. This was approx. 10"x13"
