I've created this pencil skirt by refashioning a pair of trousers that were not fitting right. The fabric was stripy and had a bit of stretch in it which I thought would work well for a pencil skirt. I would think that any trousers with a bit of stretch in them would be suitable for a similar project.

Here is a picture of the original trousers. They had a cool nautical/sailor feel to them – but I think they had more potential as a skirt.
I’ve cut off the legs – these will be used for the body of the skirt. Now I’m also left with nautical shorts – I will keep them for another future project – perhaps another skirt?
I’ve cut the trousers legs open – I’ve cut right next to the seam (and cut the seam off). So now I’m left with two rectangles of fabrics – each piece has a seam (the other seam) running thought it, which works well because the seams help to keep the shape of the skirt.
I've sewn the pieces together (inside out) and tried it on.
It was too big, so I’ve pinned it to fit my size. I’ve curved it slightly around the hips, to make is fit better.
As the fabric had a stretch in it I’ve used elastic for the waistband.
I’ve had some stretchy navy blue lace, which I used to decorate the bottom of the skirt.
