You Will Need (6 things)
- Skirt that fits perfectly
- 1 ½ yd Anchor Print Fabrics from Timeless Treasure Fabric
- Pins
- Scissors
- Elastic for the waistband
- Sewing Machine
Steps (10 steps, 120 minutes)
-
1
To get the basic pattern, you can either create your own by measuring your waist or use an existing skirt you own that fits well.
-
2
Fold the fabric in half vertically and then in half horizontally and lay the skirt or pattern in the top right hand corner, so that it's against the two folded edges.
Measure around the skirt, leaving a 3/4" seam allowance and mark with tailors chalk.
-
3
Cut out along the sides and top - leaving the folded edge in the middle uncut.
-
4
Unfold to reveal two skirt pieces.
-
5
Lay the two skirt pieces on top of each other, so that the wrong sides are facing out and sew down either edge.
-
6
Cut a length of elastic long enough to fit around your waist snuggly
Sew two lines of basting stitches along the top edge of your skirt.
-
7
Sew the elastic into a loop by sewing together the edges.
Gather the skirt by pulling the basting stitches tight, until the waist of the skirt is the same width as the elastic.
-
8
Sew the elastic to the top of the skirt and remove the basting stitches.
-
9
Hem the bottom of the skirt.
-
10
Cut off any loose threads and it's ready to wear!
